First Birthday Time Capsule

Hey Everyone!  I’ve decided to write a new post on the time capsule we did for Ivy’s first birthday party.  I love this idea so much and it has been my top reposted pin on Pinterest, so I figured it needed it’s own blog post!  The idea is really simple, and you can add any variation that you’d like!  I’m just so excited that she will have this someday (17 years from now)!

For Ivy’s first birthday time capsule we cut out different colored sheets of paper, collected random stickers, and had crayons, pens, and colored pencils available.  Some of Ivy’s cousins drew pictures, aunts and grandmas wrote heart-felt pages… at least that’s what they told me! Haha… part of the fun of this time capsule is that we decided not to read or look at any of them!  After everyone was done they put it in the large envelope and we never peeked inside.  The envelope is now sealed and in our safe until Ivy turns 18 (the year 2034!).

It’s not too late to make one for your child!  It was special being able to do this on Ivy’s first birthday, but if you have older children I would still encourage you to do this!  It will be so special for them to open one day!  Older children can also write a letter to themselves, or draw a picture to add!

You could do this at a baby shower too:

Pink Ice Cream

Pink ice cream

Hello everyone!  This week has been really rainy again, and its making me dream of warmer days like when we took these pics a few weeks ago.  I also bought a stand up paddle board last night and can’t wait to throw it in the lake!  Anyone have any tips for SUP-ing with a one year old?!  Today were heading to Minneapolis to look at art.  Rainy day at the art museum sounds perfect to me! I’m sure there will be pictures from that coming soon!

Stay-at-Home-Mom Dream Job

Stay at home mom dream job

Hey everyone!  Today I’m going to change it up a little bit from the usual fashion content and talk about motherhood!  I keep on thinking to myself, “how am I going to write this without offending anyone?” because that’s not what my blog is about.  At all.  I’m all about inclusion and acceptance of others who may not be like yourself.  So, I’m going to try to keep this fairly light, although I have very strong beliefs about a lot of subjects on parenthood.  And I also want to mention that this is my experience as a mother.  This is not for everyone, and that’s just fine.  We are all doing the best that we can or know how at the moment.

I know you can scour the internet and find millions of related articles on the subject of “mommy judgement”… especially mother on mother (hate) judgement.  Everyone thinks their way is the best way, but in reality every family dynamic is SO different, and only those parents know what’s best for their family.  Sounds simple enough, right?!  Well no, because one year in I still get the occasional side-eye, eye roll, or straight up “oh” (in a judgmental tone).   Usually from women.  Yes, I’m a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM)!  It’s everything I thought it could be, and more.  It’s truly my dream to be home with my babies and spend every moment possible with them.  (Ivy is literally climbing all over me and hitting the keyboard as I write this… haha!  Now I just took a 5 minute break to play with her and I’m back!)  My parenting style is closest related to the Attachment Parenting style.  Yes, I liked the job I had before becoming a mother, and I love making money, but nothing in the world would be more fulfilling to me than this right here.  OK, so now it sounds like mommy judgement on my end for those women who choose to work.  Not at all!  Yes, I think what I’m doing is best for my child, but like I said all family dynamics are different.  I know lots of wonderful mothers that are working part-time, full-time, and over-time while also raising their kids.  I also know a ton of stay-at-home-parents who work their butts off all day everyday without a break.  (Hi that’s me!  But I embrace that kind of crazy… that’s my kind of cray cray.  I love it!)  All parents just find what style of crazy works for them.

One more thing while I’m on this subject.  I once had a woman (a little younger than myself) tell me about an article she read on stay-at-home-parents and how it’s just an excuse for them to be lazy and not work.  WOW!  (Insert middle finger emojis here.)  I don’t think she was trying to be offensive, just trying to make small talk.  But, she was obviously not a mom otherwise she would have known how dumb that sounded.  Being a SAHM is more than a full-time job.  Being a mom who works outside the home is more than a full-time job too.  All moms work their butts off day and night.  We are constantly needed, and we don’t ever get a break unless we schedule a break for ourselves.  Even going to the bathroom you don’t get alone time!  Everyday I’m cooking homemade meals, cleaning, playing, taking my daughter to educational playgroups, teaching my daughter about life, running errands, and trying to build a blog… plus a million more things!  I think that no matter if you work outside the home or not, every parent needs to spend good quality time with their kids.  We’re raising our future here!!

I don’t want to make this post too long, but I didn’t really dive much into my style of parenting other than the fact that I’m a SAHM.  Maybe that will have to be a blog post for another time!  If you’d like to read more about Attachment Parenting, go to their website here. I don’t really let people’s judgements get to me anymore, I’m a take it or leave it kind of person. If I helped one more person feel good about all their hard work then mission accomplished! You’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. And that’s good cuz you’re a macchiato, baby.

I feel like we all need to do a group hug now and kumbaya (come together)!  I have so much love and respect for everyone.  We’re all just doing our best, right?!  Let me know if you liked this article and if you think I should blog more on this subject!

Xo (and lots of love),
